The unveiling of plans for a new £5M engineering training centre was the highlight for inward investment in North East Lincolnshire in February.
The wider Humber region continued in growing its impressive offering of training and education services for our key renewable energy sector. Meanwhile, we welcomed the launch of the 10th annual regional awards celebrating how far our region has come with the renewables industry over the last decade.
£5M Plans for New Stallingborough Engineering Training Centre
Plans have been submitted by the Humberside Engineering Training Association (HETA) for a new £4.8 million engineering training centre at Stallingborough.
The move is designed to boost skills and jobs by meeting employers’ needs while building capacity to support inward investors.
HETA’s proposed two-storey development will include workshops for individual training in fabrication and welding, machining, electrical and mechanical engineering.
Joanne Lawson, Deputy Chief Executive said: “It’s all about increasing the training support for employers across North and North East Lincolnshire and making it part of a package which will help to attract new businesses into the area.”
Humber Renewables Awards 2022
The Humber Renewables Awards 2022 are returning for their tenth year, honouring firms large and small for doing their bit to make the Humber a fulcrum of green energy.
Organiser Reach Plc’s business editor for the Humber region, David Laister said: “Offshore wind may well have put the Humber on the green map – but as the past decade of the awards have shown – there is much more to the region. World-leading commercial solar installations, pioneering electric vehicle charging and materials supply, huge work around traditional industry transition – the list goes on, and let’s keep adding to it.”
Siemens Gamesa puts its name to the renewable champion accolade, to be selected by the judges, with support from fellow sponsors BAE Systems, Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, Orsted, RWE, Vestas, across the categories, and programme-sponsor Grimsby Renewables Partnership.
New Courses to Help Humber Progress With Green Transition
Six new courses have been launched at the University of Hull to help businesses and individuals develop new skills and knowledge for the green energy transition.
They are designed to help tackle the key skills gaps and talent demands for the Humber region, as it drives forwards its ambitious transition to a Net Zero economy.

Supply Chain Risk and Resilience
The courses are delivered by experts in their field, and provide a unique opportunity for businesses to discover the opportunities the Net Zero transition could hold for them.
Velocys joins Zero Carbon Humber
Velocys has joined Zero Carbon Humber (ZCH), a partnership to build the world’s first net zero industrial cluster and decarbonise the North of England. ZCH will establish critical infrastructure to capture CO2 emissions and supply negative carbon power across the Humber.
In collaboration with British Airways, Velocys is delivering the Altalto project in Immingham, North East Lincolnshire. It is expected to be Europe’s first commercial waste-to-jet-fuel facility processing household and commercial waste destined for landfill or incineration to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
